According to Meta, Brazilian WhatsApp users may now use the chat program to make payments to local companies.
“This smooth and secure checkout experience will be a game changer for consumers and small companies wanting to purchase and sell on WhatsApp without having to travel to a website, open another app, or pay in person,” the social media firm said Tuesday on its blog.
The tool was sent out to a small number of firms on Tuesday, with more anticipated to be added in the following months, according to Meta.
The new functionality allows customers to pay for products and services using Mastercard and Visa debit, credit, and prepaid cards issued by partner banks.
“Small companies utilizing the WhatsApp Business app can join a supported payment partner, such as Cielo, Mercado Pago, or Rede,” the firm explained.
The program went live a little more than a month after the Brazilian central bank approved its debut.
“We established an open platform with the cooperation of numerous Brazilian acquirers to guarantee that the maximum number of enterprises and individuals have access to the service,” Guilherme Horn, WhatsApp Latin America’s CEO at the time, stated in a LinkedIn post.
